When he got older he was very jaded, and it's entirely valid honestly, I think he was robbed of a lot of the affection and care he deserved. So much of my stress came from not being able to talk to friends or socialize in public, but I had never seen it as an orwellian horror, just the normal dilemma of high school Witness kids surrounded by so-called "bad influences". We were encouraged to report if we saw other Witnesses behaving badly because it was evidence of them leading a "double-life". I grew up a Jehovah's Witness in NYC, and I found that just about everywhere I went there were other JW's. I was reading it as part of an assignment for class and I found that the concept of being monitored was something I dealt with on a daily basis.
